Sales Hints
When you are preparing for a viewing or indeed commencing the marketing of your property there are a number of things to consider to enhance your home:
Outside
- Keep the garden, yards and paths neat and tidy.
- Do some weeding and clear paths.
- If you have garden furniture make sure that it is presentable.
- Put out baskets, planted tubs and window boxes to give the house some kerb appeal and to look cheerful and welcoming fresh smell.
- Keep your bins out of sight in a bin store or in a specific location
Inside
- It goes without saying really that you should clean the house from top to bottom.
- Make sure the furniture looks as good as it can
- Straighten curtains and dust down blinds.
- If you have shelving keep them neat and tidy.
- Tidy away as much clutter as you can.
- Ensure that the lightbulbs are working.
Living Room
- Open the windows in summer to give your house that breath of fresh air.
- In winter ensure the house is warm.
- Depending on your personal taste potted plants or fresh flowers may brighten up the room. Selling your home is however a time to put personal preference aside.
Kitchen
- Work tops benefit greatly from under-unit lighting - so if you have them, turn them on.
- In the kitchen make sure surfaces are clean and clutter free.
- Make sure the fridge is neat and tidy and there are no smelly foods.
- Look in your cupboards and make sure they are tidy.
Bathrooms
- It is always better to have clean towels than to leave those that you used in the morning
- A new bar of soap looks better than one which is melting away.
- Obviously the bath, handbasin and toilet should be clean.
- If your bathroom is tiled check out that the tiles are clean and the grout up to scratch.
- Prospective buyers may open your bathroom cabinet. Remember to remove any items you don't want them to see.
Bedrooms
- The bed should be nicely made and clutter tidied away
- Again tidy away anything you don't want to show to prospective buyers
Garage
- If you can try and keep the garage free as space to park the car. If not keep it clean and tidy so that it does not look like all your belongings are dumped in there because you have no room for them in the house.
